C h r i s J. K a t o p i s
Chris is an experienced Washington, D.C. attorney. He provides clients 20-plus years of experience on IP protection, technology, and financial services issues (e.g. blockchain). In particular, he offers his clients a 360-degree view of intellectual property law and policy. He has served in several key positions in the federal government:
- U.S. House Judiciary Committee, Intellectual Property Counsel. His responsibilities included staffing a number of patent quality and reform hearings on issues ranging from biotechnology to business method and software-enabled technology.
- USPTO. Former Director of Congressional Relations and member of the agency's Executive Management Committee.
- U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, Law Clerk to the Hon. Pauline Newman.
- Counsel on several patent law briefs before the U.S. Supreme Court.
- Co-Chair, American Bar Association (ABA) Joint Task Force on Online Piracy and Counterfeiting.
- Legal lecturer and author of numerous articles, including for the Yale Law School.
- He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and the Temple University School of Law. He is registered as a patent attorney to practice before the USPTO.
He is the inventor of more than 60 U.S. patent applications. He is a native of New York City, N.Y. and a graduate of the Bronx High School of Science.
